Projects: An unannounced VR experience that is unlike any other

Duration: Contract, Ongoing

Location: Work from home (remote). Preference given to those living in Canada or Vancouver

Salary: $20~$35

Metanaut is hiring contractors for our next exciting VR experience. This VR title is a large multi-year project so you’ll have steady, ongoing work despite being a contractor. This interactive experience will push the boundaries of VR design and technology and will pave the way to building a metaverse.  You’ll be creating a wide variety of art assets that have a stylized, realistic proportioned, low-to-mid poly look. Successful candidates have experience creating performant and optimized art for a wide range of objects / subjects, and are able to interpret and follow aesthetic standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Create 3D models and textures within a given polygon/vertices budget
  • Collaborate with designers to explore visual options based on image references, mood boards, and/or concept art
  • Interpret and implement the team’s suggestions on aesthetics, optimizations, and other technical requirements
  • Deliver work within schedule
  • Adhere to file management protocols
  • Interact respectfully and professionally with all team members
  • Manage assigned tasks on Trello
  • Participate in 1-on-1 check-in meetings every week
  • Respond to Slack messages within 24 hours
  • Track tasks using Toggl

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in 3D modeling for use in Unity-based games
  • 1+ years of experience as a freelancer / contractor
  • Excellent knowledge in Maya, Blender, Photoshop, or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, or other relevant area of study
  • Good knowledge of the production process and pipeline
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying ideas verbally, over text, and through sketches
  • Dedicated to creating high quality work
  • Highly motivated, proactive, with a solid work ethic and positive attitude
  • Disciplined without needing constant supervision in a home environment
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Excellent visual skills and attention to detail
  • Encouraging attitude towards feedback and new initiatives
  • Attentive and active listening

Nice to haves:

  • Previous experience with creating assets for Mobile / VR / AR projects
  • Experience using Trello

Metanaut is a small award-winning team of virtual reality enthusiasts who are passionate about building a better future. Our goal is to develop VR experiences that are exceptional in design, spark a sense of wonder, and make a positive impact on the world.

We are one of the first VR studios in Vancouver, and have won some of the world’s largest VR competitions. We were accepted into the world’s largest AR grant (Magic Leap) which was only awarded to three Canadian studios.
