Duration: Contract, Ongoing

Location: Work from home (remote). Preference given to those living in Canada or Vancouver

Salary: $20~$35

Metanaut is hiring contractors for our next exciting VR experience. This VR title is a large multi-year project so you’ll have steady, ongoing work despite being a contractor. This interactive experience will push the boundaries of VR design and technology.  You’ll be rigging and animating a wide variety of realistically proportioned low-mid poly environment props and characters. Successful candidates can replicate realistic and out-of-this-world behaviors and can make small changes to models as needed.


  • Implement animation control rigging systems for complex characters and environment props using your software of choice
  • Work with the production team to create the desired animation controls and qualities for objects and characters
  • Troubleshoot animation controls, rigging issues, and make adjustments as necessary throughout the production cycle as they arise
  • Set up rigs for low-mid, realistically proportioned 3D models
  • Design, create, and maintain animation rigs for characters and props that are clean, efficient, and animation friendly
  • Proactively give feedback and suggestions to improve the current animation pipeline
  • Maintain a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work
  • Adhere to file management protocols
  • Interact respectfully and professionally with all team members
  • Manage assigned tasks on Trello
  • Participate in 1-on-1 check-in meetings every week
  • Respond to Slack messages within 24 hours
  • Track tasks using Toggl


  • 3+ years of professional experience in animating & rigging 3D models for use in Unity games
  • 1+ years of experience as a freelancer / contractor
  • Excellent understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, form, human & animal anatomy
  • Excellent knowledge in Maya, Blender, or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, or other relevant area of study
  • Good knowledge of the game production process and pipeline
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying ideas verbally, over text, and through sketches
  • Dedicated to creating high quality work
  • Highly motivated, proactive, with a solid work ethic and positive attitude
  • Disciplined without needing constant supervision in a home environment
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Encouraging attitude towards feedback and new initiatives
  • Attentive and active listening

Nice to haves:

  • Previous experience with creating assets for Mobile / VR / AR projects
  • Experience with Python, Mel, C++, and 3dsMax
  • Experience animating cameras, and a good eye for cinematics
  • Experience using Trello
