Co-op Developer (Unity)

Quick Learner / Self-starter / Problem Solver

Duration: Full-time (4 months + possibility of extension)

Location: Work from home (remote) but must be living in Canada as a citizen or have a valid work permit (preference given to those living in Vancouver)

Salary: $16~25 per hour

Hello! Metanaut is a small award-winning team of virtual reality enthusiasts who are passionate about building a better future. We’ve been creating VR apps & games for over 5 years now! Our focus is to develop VR experiences that spark a sense of wonder and make a positive impact on the world.

We’re expanding the size of our team to work on a brand new VR experience that will knock your socks off. We’re in the early phases of the project right now so we can’t disclose much but what we can say is: This is the job for you if you want to work on exciting, bleeding edge entertainment that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in VR. This is a project that can only exist in VR and has never been attempted before, and we’re looking for candidates who have the chops to explore this unknown territory with us!

Successful candidates have experience building VR experiences with Unity. They have working knowledge of C# and understand best practices for Unity / C# development. It is important for the candidate to be able to build an interactable VR experience from scratch.


  • Develop VR prototypes of vastly different VR experiences in Unity
  • Design, develop, and maintain C# code that may be deployed to thousands of people
  • Work closely with designers to implement gameplay and interactive features / functionality using Unity
  • Create and improve tools as necessary to support specific features
  • Continuously test, debug, profile, analyze, and optimize on applicable VR hardware
  • Review and test features / functionality developed by the team and provide constructive feedback
  • Participate in regular code reviews and 1-on-1 meetings with other developers
  • Contribute innovative and creative ideas on all aspects of virtual reality design and development
  • Write and maintain comments in your code and documentation in our internal wiki
  • Participate in daily scrum meetings and weekly sprint meetings (online)
  • Track tasks using Toggl


  • 8+ months of programming experience using Unity (game jam & hobby projects are counted)
  • 1+ VR project where you were the lead developer
  • Strong desire to write clean and optimal code
  • Strong 3D math and geometry knowledge (eg. vectors, vector operations, matrices, matrix transformations, Euler angles, and quaternions)
  • Willingness to tackle new challenges outside of your comfort zone
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Disciplined without needing constant supervision in a home environment
  • Punctual with deadlines

Nice to haves:

  • Experience working remotely
  • Experience using Jira and Plastic SCM
  • Experience with VRTK and other VR libraries
  • Participation in game jams and hackathons

Metanaut is one of the first VR studios in Canada, and has won some of the world’s largest VR grants & competitions. Our team has backgrounds in industrial design, engineering, interactive arts, and computer science—which helps us apply proven real-world design principles to unfamiliar virtual worlds.
